What I Disliked about IIWEY EY01
To be honest, there are a few prominent drawbacks. In my attempt to use and explore it, the quality did not match up to higher-end options as expected. However, it did survive daily temperatures of 51°C in the parking lot, which alleviated some of my concerns about its cheap build. I am willing to invest more, even if it fails after 6 months like many cheap dash cameras do.

Thanks to the X4S Duo’s HDR+WDR, it adapts to the external environment, providing enhanced night vision even in low-light conditions, giving me added peace of mind when driving in the evening or in poorly lit areas off-road. However, the optional GPS mount for the X4S Duo was a disappointment, but considering the overall package, it is still the best deal for me. In compensation, I like the X4S Duo’s 3” IPS screen, which provides easy access to recorded videos and photos, playback options, and settings adjustments, although I rarely use it. So far, it seems to handle well in harsh weather conditions in my region, and I appreciate the large capacity of the 512GB SD card support, which allows me to store files from both cameras and check them at the end of the day.

There was a disappointment with the optional GPS and hardwire kit. Although I couldn’t test it out myself, if you decide to try it, the installation should be fairly easy. You can use the piggyback fuse holder and possibly the OBD socket instead of the included car charger with the type-C USB cable. Having reviewed numerous single and dual-channel dash cameras, I was excited to try out a three-channel camera for a change. After much consideration, I decided to invest in the VIOFO A139 2K (3-channel dashcam). Let me tell you, this dashcam has far exceeded my expectations in terms of performance and features. It truly is a complete package, offering everything you could need. I installed the VIOFO A139 in my Jeep, which is my friend’s vehicle. The setup process was straightforward, thanks to the included cables, mounts, and installation tools. Although I must admit that the wedge-shaped design isn’t my favourite, the overall functionality more than makes up for it. With its three cameras, the VIOFO A139 3CH setup provides complete coverage of the road ahead, the cabin interior, and the road behind.
The front camera records at an impressive 2K resolution (1440P), while the interior and rear cameras capture footage at 1080P. I was able to view the footage directly on my phone using the VIOFO mobile app, which made it convenient for reviewing and sharing recordings. One thing to note is that there are multiple versions of this camera available. You can opt for the two-channel version, which includes the front and rear cameras, or even go for the single-channel 4K option. However, I decided to invest in a three-channel setup for the best possible recording coverage. Speaking of video quality, during my testing, I found the A139 to be above average. The daytime footage is clear, although capturing license plates of oncoming traffic can be hit or miss. The nighttime video quality is decent, thanks to the Sony Starvis sensors, which excel in low-light conditions. The interior-facing camera records in 1080p Full HD and features infrared LEDs for night recording. During the day, the infrared filter can be removed to capture colour footage in the cabin. My friend found this setup to be highly effective and reliable.
The use of the VIOFO mobile app was frequent to view the camera’s live feed, adjust settings, and download recorded footage directly to the phone. The app also allows for adjusting the bitrate and utilizing the H.265 video codec to save storage space, which is incredibly useful. Speaking of storage, I initially installed a 64GB SD card but quickly realized that it wasn’t sufficient for storing recordings from all three channels. Hearing this my friend bought the 256GB SD card to ensure optimal storage space and I highly recommend you should too. While the VIOFO A139 3CH captures audio in the cabin, I took it a step further and added an external microphone. This feature has proven invaluable, especially during police traffic stops or instances where my friend wanted to capture potential officer misconduct. It adds an extra layer of security and accountability, making it one of his favourite aspects of this dashcam.
What I Liked about VIOFO A139 (3CH Dash Cam)
The VIOFO A139 2K (3-channel dashcam) is outstanding in terms of performance and features. It provides complete coverage even in low-light conditions. I personally agree with Ariel at Vortex Radar, who recommended this masterpiece to me. It is, without a doubt, the best 3-channel dash camera for the money. Moreover, it has built-in supercapacitors, which allowed our long ride to survive with temperatures reaching 65 °C. It performed well, and it’s rated for a maximum temperature resistance of -4 °F to 176 °F (-20 °C to 80 °C).
What I Disliked VIOFO A139 (3CH Dash Cam)
While the daytime video quality was good, capturing the license numbers of moving vehicles at night proved to be challenging. Its ability to capture crystal-clear 4K footage ensures exceptional clarity, perfect for sharing on my YouTube channel. Additionally, the rear camera records in 2K QHD resolution at 60 frames per second, providing excellent rear-view coverage. I found the 156° wide-angle lens view to be perfect for capturing a comprehensive view of the road.
What really sets the U1000 apart is its exceptional host of useful features. It offers the Thinkware Cloud App. By connecting the dashcam to my smartphone via Wi-Fi, I was able to easily view footage directly from the app. Managing the dashcam’s settings was a breeze as well. The app also offers additional features such as geofencing, vehicle locator, and impact notifications, further enhancing the security and protection of my vehicle. The best thing I want to mention about owning the U1000 is its built-in GPS antenna and alerts for all the safety cameras on the road. The U1000 alerts you with audio warnings when approaching various road safety cameras through the UK speed camera (Cyclops) database with regular free updates. This includes red light warnings, speed camera warnings, and mobile zone warnings. While my truck already had built-in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), I appreciated that the U1000 offers its own ADAS features for those without such systems in their vehicles.
Since it is my new prime, I was also impressed by the U1000’s parking surveillance mode. It can be set up using the hardwired or OBD2 connector for continuous power, as well as using the hardwire kit—whichever option you prefer is available for both. Personally, I went with the OBD2 connector, and it worked for me. I appreciated the fact that it constantly monitors the vehicle’s battery health and shuts down if any issues are detected, ensuring the dashcam doesn’t drain the battery. Another aspect that impressed me was the U1000’s ability to withstand high temperatures from -20 °C to 80 °C (that is -4 °F to 176 °F), which is within the typical supercapacitor range, and it doesn’t overheat. Even though there is a heat discharge construction and a built-in thermal sensor to ensure that the dashcam automatically turns off when it detects intense heat. And it’s a good thing that it doesn’t explode like battery-operated dash cameras.
What I Liked about Thinkware U1000 4K
The Thinkware U1000 impressed me with its crystal-clear 4K Ultra HD footage. Its excellent night vision 2.0 technology ensures clear visibility even in low-light conditions, thanks to the Sony sensor and wide-angle lens. The built-in GPS and Thinkware Cloud App were incredibly useful for tracking and managing footage, and the parking surveillance mode provided added security.
What I Disliked about Thinkware U1000 4K
The only drawback I found was the requirement for an internet connection to utilize the Thinkware Cloud features and live video feed for remote monitoring. Both the front and rear units are built to withstand extreme temperatures, ensuring that the camera continues to operate optimally regardless of weather conditions. Having a supercapacitor is all I could say to save the footage in the heatwave this year and onward Global changes to the climate. I wasn’t going to get this one, till I was recommended by Jim Martin at TechAdvisor, who really has a knack for shaping your thoughts. So much I must say, this is not a new model but a flagship from a few years back, currently priced below the £300 mark. He told me this is a complete deal for me, as it includes a front and rear dash cam, a hardwire kit, and Thinkware Cloud. The reason I wasn’t going for this is due to its 1080p resolution only. However, once I got my hands on it, my thoughts came to their senses. This model is meant for long-mile drivers who need to drive much more than I do, and it offers the advantage of less bulk on hardware and light storage requirements, even sufficient with 32GB and 64GB microSD cards.
When I started testing it out, I found that it was loaded with the same amount of technology as my Thinkware U1000, which was quite compelling to me. It is powered by an Ambarella A12 processor, as the leaflet states, and utilizes Sony Exmor R Starvis sensors for the front and rear cameras. Its image quality is superior to that of the F200. If you prefer 1080p for lower storage needs and less strain on hardware, this certainly produces less heat, I recommend this as the right choice for stable performance. Moreover, the capacitor inside keeps it cool and performs better than most other options, with a rating of -4°F to 158°F.
In the box, I received a 32GB microSD card and a hardwire kit, enabling the cameras to record while parked.
