There is no innovation in this model, Peter Byrne lied; everything is the same as the Garmin DriveCam 76, which is the best of all time, and the NuviCam LGV 710 MT-D EU. So, what changed here is the software features. It is programmed with camper-specific features: specialized routing for the size and weight of your vehicle, camper sites and services directory, and an easy route planner with GPX file sharing. Other than that, nothing has changed. You have the same accessories as I mentioned before, the same battery life, which is relatively shorter than the DriveCam 76, and the same 1080p dash camera. In addition to these features, I have only appreciated the compatibility of the backup cameras like the BC 50 and BC 40. This compatibility ensures that I have a clear view of what’s happening behind me, making parking and manoeuvring my motorhome a breeze.
Now, I understand that investing in a Garmin sat nav with a dash cam may seem like a splurge, especially when there are other options available. However, having had experience with the older generation Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S, I can confidently say that the newer CamperCam 795 offers significant improvements in terms of functionality and user experience. Although I am disappointed to say that Garmin charged you for software more than the device, this is true. If you are an avid camper, unlike me (I travel passively), and if you have a large motorhome, this is for you. I had heard great things about Snooper’s line of products and was determined to make an informed decision. So, I delved into researching the TruckMate SC5900, which was touted as the second-best option after the top-tier TruckMate S6900 EU. One of the first things that stood out to me was its 5″ LCD TouchScreen, reminiscent of the Spedal Navicam 796P I had come across earlier. However, the SC5900 was slightly smaller in size compared to the S6900’s 7-inch display. It became evident that Snooper only produced a single dual-service device, and that was the TruckMate SC5900 DVR G2. Priced at £240, it was the only two-in-one device available from Snooper at that time. Although I had not anticipated it, the inclusion of a 720P camera was disappointing and not what I expected.
I appreciated the fact that the TruckMate SC5900 came with a convenient Carry Case, which had become somewhat of a signature for Snooper. However, I was slightly disappointed to discover that the Magnetic Mount was an additional accessory that required an extra purchase. By configuring the Vehicle profiles and utilizing the Truckmate Routing Software, I put the device to the test on a short trip with my camper truck.
